Sweet, sweet Grayson is already 3 months old with some pretty awesome hair.  His mommy and daddy had a maternity session this summer and then I got to meet the little guy for a newborn session.   This is probably the thing I love most about being in this branch of photography — I love watching families grow!  It is amazing how much they change in such a short period of time!  3 months is a tricky time because they are still working on their head control, but we were still able to get some really cute shots of him!

Here is a look back and his parent’s maternity shoot…

A Milestone Mini Session is PERFECT for the time between newborn and toddler and is only 30 minutes long — which is plenty for their tolerance of me clicking a camera in their faces!  Book a session now!

In re-doing my website, I lost all of my posts… or at least all of the images for my posts (which is pretty much what a post is for..).  I have decided to recap 2014 and share some of my favorite images from each session so you can get an idea of the fun I had in 2014. 🙂

First, this family is adorable.  There is nothing better than the joy experienced as a kid than when you are swinging.  This little boy wanted NOTHING.. I mean, NOTHING to do with me.  I hid behind trees.. I made silly faces.. I tried to dance a little…. nothing.  But, on literally the last picture we took, this happened.  Mom and dad made it a canvas.. and shoot, I would have too.  Love it.

This lady is truly an inspiration.  She went through a crazy year medically and came out a survivor.. stronger, determined, and happy.  It was a pleasure meeting her and hearing of her journey!portrait

If you come to my studio, you’ll see this guy hanging on the wall.. because he is just that cute. This is my hairstylist’s son (shout out Cameo Salon in Fuquay – ask for Terra.. she’s amazeballs).  I took his newborn portraits and these are his 6 month portraits.  He was barely sitting up on his own, so what you don’t see is mom to the right ready to push him back up to sitting. Ha.  But seriously. How cute is he?!six month

Just a typical maternity shoot in February…. except there was snow on the ground.  Definitely a first.. North Carolina doesn’t see a lot of snow, but OF COURSE it would snow the days leading up to an outdoor maternity session.  This couple was a blast and has since moved away from NC, but you’ll see an image of their newborn shoot in a later post 😉maternity

One of my dear friends had her baby this year.. and she was more in favor of a lifestyle newborn session because she wanted to include the dog (she’s a little obsessed with bulldogs.. but come on.. look at that fella.. he is enough to make me even want one.. I think she said she has literally only gone a week of her whole life without a bulldog..) ANYWAY, this is from his nursery and now the big guy is walking.. crazy!lewie

Daw.  My niece is the one wrapped pretty in pink and the two handsome boys are mine.  She is the first girl grandbaby of the family and these two boys love her to pieces.  And, she will obviously be spoiled this Christmas by everyone (her Aunt Amy included).  Love you, Anna Louise!boys and anna

This little boy yawned more during his session than any other newborn I have ever photographed.  I think I got just as many sleepy faces as I did yawning faces. Ha.  His big brother came along too and was SO proud to be a big brother.. love it.  And, I have a real soft spot for red obviously he is a favorite. 😉

Stay tuned for the next set of favorites from 2014!

It is no secret, especially to my mother, that I am in love with the squishy-ness of newborn snuggles.  In fact, she told my husband that if I ever stopped photographing newborns that I would probably have to have more children to fill the gap.  So, in 2014 I really dedicated myself to trying to improve my newborn photography specifically.  Photography is an ever evolving field that I think always takes practice to perfect.  In doing that, you develop a certain style that works for you.  I have come to find out that my style is very simplistic, natural, and neutral-toned.  You try new poses and accessories.. some work – some don’t.  Take notes of what worked well in a session and what didn’t so you can always improve.  I had a goal in January to double the number of newborns that I photographed in 2013.. I met that goal and couldn’t be happier.  I met a lot of great families along the way– some I met during their maternity shoot, and some just the day of their newborn session.  I heard great birth stories and birth stories that had my jaw on the floor.  Some of those babies in 2014 I have already photographed again and they have grown so much, but still look so similar to their sweet, sleepy, newborn self.  It truly is an honor to see families grow and the fact that they choose me to document it is humbling.  So, without further ado, here is the collage of my newborns of 2014.  15 boys and 9 girls (1 set of twins) .  I hope 2015 is just as prosperous!

I have some exciting news for 2015!  I will now be offering something I like to call “Art Sessions.”  As a photographer, it warms my heart to walk into people’s homes and see their beautiful images displayed throughout their living rooms and bedrooms! Digital images are great in this day and age, but what good is a lovely image if it does nothing but sit on a jump drive for years?  Unfortunately, it is hard to find the time to not only have a session, get the images, order a print, and then hang the print.  This coming from the lady who started a baby book for her first son and gave up after 3 months because I couldn’t keep up with the prints… So, no judgements here!

Here is what the Art Sessions will provide you.

1)  A pre-consultation to determine your need.  Do you want a grouping for over your sofa or a gallery wall in the upstairs hallway?  One picture of each child, all of the kids, parents, and then the whole family? What colors are in your home so we can match your outfits with your decor?

2) A 1-hour on-location shooting to capture your vision.  I will specifically focus on our pre-consultation to drive the session, making sure I can deliver the canvases you had in mind.

3) A post-consultation where I will show you digital templates of the different canvas grouping options with your images inserted.  This way you can really visualize what your home will look like!  We can customize it any way you wish.

4) Sit back and wait for your wall art to arrive!  Our canvases are high quality, backed with matboard, and ready to hang.  They will look fabulous in your home for years to come!

What will the Art Sessions cost?  The session itself will be $100 to cover my time shooting/editing/designing.  Canvas groupings will run between $200-$500 depending on number of canvases and overall size of cluster.  There will be an option to purchase the digital images, but the Art Sessions are meant to provide you with a print product so digital images are not included.

Well, another busy fall is in the books.  This is by far the most gorgeous time of year in N.C.  The leaves are fantastic.. the sun sets beautifully.. and the weather is phenomenal.  It is no wonder why I get slammed with requests for family sessions.  In order to facilitate the large requests, I offered 2 weekends of mini sessions at two different locations.  The first location is by far one of my favorite rustic/farm locations, and the second was a local family-owned Christmas tree farm.  The sessions went amazing, and didn’t have to reschedule due to weather (woop!).  Take a look at some of my gorgeous clients!
